Privacy

In short: we do not collect names, e-mail addresses or accounts. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. The chat needs only a few pieces of data to work and to protect itself from spam — below is exactly what and for how long.

Who is responsible for the data

The data controller is the owner of kartey.live. For anything related to your data, contact: admin@kartey.live.

What data and why

DataPurposeHow long
Nick — you choose it yourself; it does not have to be your real name shown with your messages, protects the nick from impersonation up to 90 days after your last visit, or until you delete it
Chat messages — public, visible to every visitor running the chat only the last 150 messages and no longer than 7 days
IP address hash — your address is immediately turned into an irreversible hash; the IP address itself is never stored anti-spam and anti-flood limits, bans in server memory for minutes to hours; for a ban — until it expires
Poll vote — linked to your nick so everyone votes once; only totals are public counting votes until the poll is removed or a new one starts
Nick key — stored only in your browser; the server knows only its hash recognising that the nick belongs to you until you remove it from your browser or delete the nick

We keep no visitor logs and no chat archive. The legal basis is legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): running the chat, keeping it secure and moderating it.

Browser storage instead of cookies

The site stores in your browser (localStorage) only what it needs to work: your nick key, display settings (language, cinema mode, font size, mention sound) and the list of people you ignore. The ignore list never reaches the server. None of this is used for tracking or sent anywhere else.

Embedded players

Video does not pass through our server — the player loads directly from the platform that is streaming (Twitch, YouTube, Kick or Trovo). Those services may set their own cookies and collect data under their own privacy policies. We have no access to that data.

Bot protection

When you create a new nick, we use Cloudflare Turnstile — a service that checks you are not a bot. Cloudflare processes technical data about your browser under its own privacy policy. Returning users (with a nick key) are not checked.

Where the data is

The server is in the European Union (Hetzner Online GmbH, data centre in Finland). Data is never sold or shared for marketing.
